Welcome
Ithaca Montessori School (IMS) welcomes families committed to a warm,
vibrant, child-centered environment for their children. IMS allows children
to explore and discover the joy of learning in a nurturing and creative
school setting. Our goal is to encourage self-directed learning and to
help our children become independent, inquiring and confident young men
and women.

A rich learning
experience
Our Montessori curriculum is enhanced with yoga, music, art, and Spanish
instruction. Our programs provide our students with a wide range of experiences
and learning opportunities. In our work as educators, we adhere to Dr.
Maria Montessori's plea to 'follow the child'. We accomplish this objective
by supporting the developmental characteristics of the group while never
losing site of the unique personality and needs of each individual child
within that group.
A vibrant
community with a long tradition
Ithaca Montessori School has been caring for the children of upstate New
York for 40 years – we are the original Montessori school in this area.
We do not just enroll students, we welcome families to our community,
operating as a highly effective parent co-op. The parents are the sustaining
force behind the vision that we have for IMS. Our parent cooperative fosters
a strong sense of community through parents sharing their time and expertise.
With families coming here from all over the world, our incredibly diverse
student body provides a unique multicultural learning experience for our
students.
New to the
area?
Our community is particularly welcoming to newcomers. We know how challenging
it is to move to a new town and we do our best to help new families get
