Our Facility
Ithaca Montessori School is housed a spacious building especially designed for this purpose. We have six classrooms with private bathrooms, two kitchens, a self-contained therapy room and a full-size gymnasium.

Toddler Classrooms
Ithaca Montessori School has two cozy spaces where our toddlers spend their days. The Oak and Hickory classrooms are both specially designed with these smallest children in mind; furnishings are simple, activities are easily accessible and everything is perfectly sized to reflect our child-centered philosophy. There is also a designated toddler playground separate from our other outdoor play areas.

Primary Classrooms
Pine, Elm, Maple and Willow are the IMS classrooms our Primary children call home. Maria Montessori labeled the classroom for this age group, "casa de bambini" or children's house and we strive to create that environment for our students. The rooms are prepared to maximize opportunities for the children's success as they strive for independence; large airy rooms with plenty of space for free movement, small cozy areas for quiet work and reflection and low shelving arranged with inviting activities.

Playgrounds
IMS is fortunate to have three age-appropriate playgrounds. The toddler playground is sized just right to allow the little ones to practice their gross motor skills in a safe environment while they are gaining mastery of balance and gravity. Having a playground all to themselves means that our toddlers are never jostled or rushed by older children, and are free to enjoy themselves at their own pace. The primary playground offers our 3 to 6 year olds different structures to exercise their growing bodies, run around, and learn to take turns on the swings, slides and climbing structures. Our big-kid playground with its climbing wall and larger swings is available for the older primary kids.

Gym
IMS is fortunate to have an attached full-size gymnasium. We use this space frequently during the long Ithaca winters as a gross motor play area for the children. The gym is also an ideal location for hosting all school events such as our Fall Festival, the Thanksgiving Friendship Luncheon, book fairs, and our annual Teddy Bear Picnic.

Outside of school hours, the gym is available for rent for community activities and private events; to learn more about rentals, please call us.
